If your little one still puts everything in their mouth then this one is fab as you can use cereal or another food for the filler to make the activity taste safe for them!

Alternatively, you can avoid using food altogether, and use my printable food, pom poms, cotton wool, grass, or other natural resources for your ‘food’.

This is a great Christmas activity for practicing using a spoon, scooping, and pouring! It’s also a lovely way to introduce counting, colors, and new vocabulary to your little one.

How to Create this Christmas Sensory Bin

1. Grab my FREE Printable

Firstly, grab your Free PDF Printable (Look for the big, pink button at the bottom of the page, that says, ‘Grab my Santa & Friends Printable here!’)

2. Print off & Cut out

Once you have downloaded it, print it off onto card and then cut out your figures and their food.

Cut out Santa, Rudolph, Elf, and Snowman’s mouths carefully so that they can be fed.

3. Glue Time!

Next stick them onto half a kitchen roll tube or old plastic bottle or other small container.

Allow for the glue to dry so they are stuck well. I used super glue to stick them to a bottle as this was stronger so they lasted longer. However, when I don’t have plastic bottles to hand, I use my kids plastic cups and just use PVA glue to stick them on, so I can wash it off at the end of playtime.

work in progress - kitchen roll tubes cut in half and santa, reindeer, elf and sowman faces cut out from free printable ready to stick on with pva glue in picture.

4. Final Set Up

Next, I lined them up in a big plastic tub (great for catching all the spills!) and I gave them each a little bowl for their food.

Santa has mince pies to eat, Elf has Candy Canes, our Snowman had cotton wool, and Rudolph the Reindeer had carrots and rainbow rice to munch on!

Alternative Sensory Filler Ideas

You can, of course, feed them all taste-safe options using cereals, or you can use natural sensory bin fillers like real grass for feeding them, or make your own food out of felt or playdough. There are so many ways you can personalise this activity to your child’s needs.
