These suncatcher crafts are a lovely all-age craft to do if you have a group of kids with different abilities. Older kids can cut out the template themselves, whilst even small kids can create these if they have the template cut out and stuck onto sticky back plastic for them.

I’m currently working on some more designs, so make sure to pin this post and check back over the next few weeks as I add links to more free templates here!

How to Make your Shamrock Suncatcher Craft

To prepare this craft, go to the bottom of this post to download your free suncatcher crafts template. You’ll see a big, pink button that says, ‘grab your free Shamrock Suncatcher Template here’. There are 3 templates on the pdf so you can choose your preferred size or make a range of suncatchers.

It’s best to print this template out onto card, rather than paper, as it is less likely to break and much easier to work with.

Once you have your template printed out, you need to cut around the outside of it, and cut out the inside. If your kid is old enough, they can do this part themselves, or help with it. If they are younger then it’s best to prep this bit ahead of time.

I used regular scissors to cut these out. My friend tells me that nail scissors make it much easier!

Now you have your template cut out, you need to carefully stick it onto a sheet of sticky back plastic. I did this with the black lines facing towards me (so that they will be at the back of the craft.) This just means that you don’t have to worry about being too exact with your cutting out!

To decorate these, I simply tore up colored tissue paper and stuck it on. Don’t worry if the tissue paper goes over the lines because at the end, you simply cut around the template to get rid of any excess and then stick them to your window.

You might choose to stick another sheet of contact paper to the back side of the your suncatcher too to make it neater. I then used a very small amount of blue tac stuck to the template lines to stick mine on the window so they could easily be taken down later.
