Being bored can feel uncomfortable for our kids, but it’s a natural part of life for all of us. As a mum, I am teaching my kids to be ok with the feeling of boredom and to see it as an opportunity. An opportunity to choose an activity of preference – being bored usually means they have free time, or to use it as an opportunity to think creatively.

A Boredom Jar can help with this process, as it can be used as a stepping stone to help them get into the habit of brainstorming ideas when they are bored, rather than looking to another person to fulfil this need.

What Ideas are in the Boredom Jar?

I have provided a range of different and interesting activities for kids, ranging in age from 3 years up to about 11 years.

These activities include: educational ideas, just-for-fun ideas, independent activities, family time activities, indoor ideas, and outdoor ideas! I also have ideas for random acts of kindness to help our kids consider the needs and feelings of others. These are often my kids favourite activities!
